Can you remove the battery and starter from a motorcycle for less weight.?

I'm building a race bike and I want to remove the battery and starter from the bike will it still start and stay on withno problems while racing? Will it be a problem with track officials?

What kind of motorcycle? Some old models had kick start as well as electric starter, Lucas alternator could work with a capacitor/ battery eliminator. If your engine had a kick start available - no real problem to remove starter and battery. Run without battery? Again if bike engine had internal coil/ alternator activated model you just put on those parts. Push starting race bikes not liked by officials, may not be allowed..

if you plan on pushing it to get it started, I guess you could, but you would have to seal up the cases where the starter connects to the starting gear, and that can be costly.....

First take out the battery and see if you can push start it. If you really want less weight, dieting might work.

firstly, check with the regulations of the class you are racing in. Most regs are available on-line now. In the case of supersport type classes it is mandatory to retain the original starting mechanism

In open class racing, you are allowed to modify most things.

The fact you are asking the question suggests you have a road based bike, but more details are needed.

Without further modifications, u can remove the starter motor, but not the battery.
