I suspect someone has not filed taxes for a couple of years. Am I obligated to report them and if I do is there any benefit for me, and can I remain anonymous?

  1. You can do whatever you please.  If you don't have some compelling evidence or information to offer it will go nowhere.

  2. If they are owed money back they don't have to file.

  3. If you have facts and not just a suspicion, use irs form 3949 to report them.

  4. Do you have facts or just a grudge?

  5. You can report them - you aren't legally obligated to, to answer your other question.  You'd have to have details beyond "I suspect...." for the IRS to follow up on your report.  And yes, you can remain anonymous.  Under some circumstances there can be a reward for turning someone in, but not if you report them anonymously.
