Question:

Can you request an Elective C-Section?

Does anyone know if you can elect to have a c-section for personal preference?

I am in Australia and pregnant with number 6 and I really really do not want to give birth again - I have traumatic labours and bleeding problems after birth and I am petrified to do it again.

I will speak to my OB about it, but just wondered if anyone knew.

I am using a Private OB and Private Hospital in Victoria, Australia.

  1. You have medical issues and I wouldn't consider your reason to be "elective" at all.  I would think considering your medical history it would be a necessity. Good luck!

  2. It really does all depend on the doctor. Many doctors will though as they get more money from a csection than they do from a vaginal.

  3. That is the whole point about the "elective " bit, you choose to have one. I would think that if you wanted to after having troubled births and bleeding complications then you would be able. But if you are going in as a private patient you need to talk to your insurance cover and see what the out of pocket expenses are so you are not hit with a large bill to pay at the end.

Hope you have a nice understanding Ob.

  4. With Private Health Insurance in Tassie you can.

One of my friends has had 4 children, with 3 elective c-sections, the first born was born Naturally and almost killed her - Very traumatic.

    Not sure about Public though.

  5. well it definatley doesnt sound like youre one of those "too posh to push" ladies, and if youve got some bleeding problems afterwards i would think youre dr would actually bring it up to you, instead of you bringing it up to him! this is number six, and obviously you know your body well enough to know it doesnt do well after labor...if you think you can handle the risks of a c section (which considering your risks during vaginal...would be worth it) i definatley think they should at least hear you out! good luck with that!

  6. In VIC, where I live too, if you go private, and want a c-section, you CAN have it, however it costs an arm and a leg, since this topic was discussed with my OB.

I'm just sticking with public, going to try take a stab at natural.

  7. In America, you can.  I am not sure about overseas.

  8. As far as I know as long as there are no medical concerns associated with a c-section for you, then you should be able to have one. Speak with your doc and make it very clear that that is what you want. And remember, that baby may come before your scheduled date so keep your fingers crossed and good luck.

  9. I think, given your circumstances you should be fine to have a c-section. Talk to your OB and they will give you definate answers, although they will probably try to push you for a vaginal birth.

  10. You certainly can!

If you have a  private Obstitrition in a private hospital then absolutely. It will be costly though.

  11. Yes, you can.  I had similar problems, the Dr. wanted me to have a c-section with my fourth.  I refused, gave birth naturally(with same complications).

  12. i just did today but i had a cesar with my last he tried to convince me to go natural but my mind was made up and i told him if i go natural i would be back in 2 years having another baby so best he put me in and tie my tubes at the same time tell him you want a cesar  you would think he would considering your history im having my baby the 22nd of december so ill be in for christmas me and the kids will have to celebrate early but well have a new bub for christmas so its going to be extra special

  13. Yes you can for those reasons:) It is ur docts final say tho.

  14. I did with my daughter and will again have a c-section w/ my son in 3 weeks.  Good Luck!!!  It's a personal choice :-)  I personally love them and wouldn't trade it any other way!
