Can you return gift card?

my friend got me a nordstrom gift card for my bday but i cant find anything i like there---can they just give me the money instead?

Girt cards are not cash redeemable. Look at the fine printing on the back of the card

just save it and you'll eventually find something you like.

or just save it and when your friends bday comes up, buy them something from nordstrom using your gift card.

Sometimes stores allow the returning of gift cards but only with the original sales receipt.  The reason it doesn't cost anything to get a gift card (aside from the amount put on the gift card) is since you're basically guaranteeing someone will be purchasing there.  They don't really want to give up business, so they usually don't allow returning them or redeeming for cash.

One of the other answerers suggested offering to trade with someone in line and it sounds like a great idea!  If you cannot find anyone to do that with or you just don't feel comfortable, you could always just re-gift it (or, better yet, use it to buy a gift for someone.)

do this: buy something at nordstrom even though you dont want it and make sure its pretty close to the balance on the gift card. Either go back 20 minutes later and say you changed your mind.or go to a different Nordstrom and do it. they may try to put it on a gift card but be sure to tell them you want CASH back. they will ask for a state id so make sure you have one. Ahhhhh so simple. if you try and ask them for cash instead of gift card they wont do it. but if you purchase something and take it back they have to
