Can you return items to wal-mart without a receipt in Canada?

Question

I bought something at Wal-mart the other day, I took it home and built it only to realize the pieces didn't all fit together...so anyways I forgot to take the receipt out of the pockets of my shorts, so now after they've gone through the washer i really can't find it. I payed with debit and someone who worked they're helped me get it down and out to my truck, so considering it was a hassle to move he might remember me. So does anyone know whether or not they'd accept this or am i totall left out in the dark with this....Please keep in mind i live in eastern Canada

you do not have to have a receipt, but if you don't i believe you can only exchange it
