Can you roast sunflower seeds in the sun instead of the oven?

when i made sun flowers last i had to wait til dark to cook them but i was thinking earlier its so hot outside if u put them on a cookie sheet couldn't you just dry them out there.

  1. If you could figure out how to get a couple million miles closer to the sun, you'd be guaranteed of a good roasting! :) One thing you can try, and we used to do this in the 1960s and 1970s to save money, is to wrap the nuts in foil (add a few drops of oil), set on a folded terry towel and set on the dashboard of your car. We used to do roasts and chunks of vegetables that way. When you reach the parking area you use for work, park in the sun and roll up the windows. I haven't tried sunflower seeds, but don't see why it wouldn't work because the oil would become boiling hot.


  2. Sure. A dark pan and a very sunny area would work best. You may also want to put up a foil covered cardboard reflector on 3 sides.

  3. I would think it wouldn't get hot enough.  Put a few out and give it a try though.
