Can you roll over FMLA time?

If an employee needs to recertify for FMLA due to the chronic medical condition of her daughter, can she tack on any unused FMLA time to the recertification? She is taking the leave intermittently for doctor's appts, sick days, etc.

Also, does anyone know if there have been any offical changes to FMLA since the Military Family Leave amendment in January of this year?

Thank you.

  1. FMLA time is calculated without any regard for what time has been taken off, when, or for what condition. An employee can take off a total of 12 weeks in 12 months. There have been no changes to the act since January.
