I am going to be going on a trip and i have 2 laptops that i would like to plug in and i was going to buy two 75watt inverters to accomplish this. Wll this work or will it cause a problem with the electrical or cause a fuse to blow or anything like this?

  1. 75 W at 120 volt is approximately 0.62 Amps. With a 12 volt input at approximately 6 amps (in this example 1/10 the output current takes 10 times the input current).

The total draw should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 amps - check the fuse for the lighter circuit - if it's 15 amp or greater, you should be fine.

  2. As long as you do NOT draw more AMP than the fuse can supply, that is NOT a problem.

Most cars will have 10 to 20 amps (that is 120 watt to 240 watt).

    Good Luck...

  3. Wattage = Amps times voltage

multiply the cigarette lighter fuse amps by 12 volts. That will tell you how many watts you can pull. For example if it is a 30 amp fuse, you can pull 360 watts.a 15 amp will allow 180 watts. a 15 amp or larger fuse would allow the two 75 watt inverters. and allow a little for surges (by a couple spare fuses).

Then you need to know how much power the laptops require. 75 watts is about 6 amps at 12 volts, and that will translate to .6 amps at 120 volts. Then the inverters will also use some current themselves.

  4. its might blow the fuse most only have a 15amp fuse

  5. Should work okay so long as you don't exceed 150watts (the limit of cigarette lighters according to crutchfield)
