Can you run 720p on a 1080p tv?

Yeah you can. Anything up to 1080p.

of course you can 720p is lower than 1080p ur tv goes to 1080p but if u wanted to run something 1080p and ur tv was a 720p then couldnt since ur tv is only capable of 720p but urs is 1080 so ur good for everything they have out so far

Yes, the TV figures it out on it's own.  It will convert the video to the "native resolution" of the screen; in this case 1080.  It will still look like 720p, though because the screen can't invent detail that isn't there in the first place.  But, it should be really good looking 720p.
