can you run 8 outlets and 2 lights (works separately) off 1breaker and if so how many amps should it be

  1. It also depends on what size wire the circuit is.  If you have #14 awg wire then you'll only need a 15 amp breaker.  If you have #12 awg wire then you'll need a 20 amp breaker.  I assume this is for your house and it's not uncommon to have the receptacles and lights on one circuit for one room. As a general rule I wouldn't want more than 10 openings (receptacles and lights) on one circuit.  The main concern is how many amps are being drawn on the circuit.  You  don't want anymore than 80% load on the breaker, ie: 20 amps x .80 = 16 amps.  Just look at the fixtures and total up the amp draw.

  2. It is all depend on how many amps you planning to use on those outlets and, if you plan using total of 15 amps you should get 20 amps breaker

    Check each fixture or appliance for his draw amps, or consulate an electrician

    First, you should split the lighting and outlet circuits.

    Second, the 8 outlets should be split into 2 circuits.

    That being said, if this is all you have use #12 wire with a 20 amp breaker.
