Assuming you had a massive kick (like Rugby's Paul Thorburn, who scored a 70 yard, 8 and a half inch penalty in 1986) could you legally score a field goal from a kick off?

  1. No, because the kickoff is not a field goal attempt. In this case, it would be a touchback. And remember; on kickoffs the kicker is getting a much longer running start than he is on field goals.

  2. why are all these answers so polite just say no and get on with it.

  3. It is not worth any points if you do kick it through the uprights off of a kick-off.  It just a touchback, the other team gets the ball at the 20 yard line.

  4. no.

  5. Yeah on a kick off no matter where the ball lands, if it is beyond the last yard line on the opposite side of the field it is downed a touchback & the ball will be moved to the 20 yd line.  If it goes out of bounds before that it's a penalty, & will be placed at the 40. You can however kick a field goal on a first down, meaning as soon as youreceive the bal from kick off, & down it, or get a touchback, you can kick it on the next play, when you're on ofense :)

  6. no, it would be counted as a TOUCHBACK.

You can only score a field goal on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th down play offensively, unless your converting extra points.

Kickoff isnt considered a down,  so therefore, cannot kick a field goal.
