Me and my friends were outside staring at the stars and and we saw atleast 3 dots gradually moving across the sky. They weren't blinking, and way to high to be airplanes, believe me. They looked exactly like stars, just moving, in a straight line.

  1. Like the moon, artificial satellites reflect sunlight. You aren't seeing lights mounted on the satellites themselves, but the light reflected from the sun over the horizon onto the metal surfaces of the device.

  2. congrats! you saw satelite's! just goes to show how much our view of the nightsky has changed over the years...

  3. assuming you don't mean that they were flying in formation, all together, then yes, you very probably saw some satellites, it's not hard to see them if the sky is decently dark and you have patience.

  4. Well the satelites are able to be seen form earth at night just like a moon but smaller and much closer.

So yes you did see satelites they were very close and the Sun's rays were alumenating off the satelites.

  5. Certainly. I see several satellites every night I observe. Your description is exactly right for a satellite. You can get detailed predictions for your location by registering at:

  6. You can't resolve the shape of a satellite with your eye but, just as with a star, you see the reflected light.

You will only see a satellite near sunrise or sunset.  At other times of the night the Earth's shadow will not allow sunlight to illuminate the satellite.

  7. Planes should be blinking and you can see satellites for a few hours after sunset.  It sounds like you saw some.

  8. that was probably a satelite. or it could've been the ISS(Internation Space Station). It is very easy to spot before/after sunset.
