Yes, but for stars, seeing them in the city would be nowhere as good as seeing them in the country. Go to the city, look at them then travel away from the city lights and you will see a difference.

You can see the Southern Cross in the night sky from anywhere in Australia.

In fact it's better if you're away from the city lights, the stars seem much clearer and brighter and the sky seems darker and bigger.
