  1. Hi,

There are many ways to market a small business on the web.  You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC.  However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

This portal is giving away a free business card holder for lising your business (I got mine a few days ago in the mail).  If you want to know about some other portals, just let me know.

  2. A generic "thing" would a thing that is basically the same as is sold as a brand-name product, but without a brand-name.  An example would be generic "facial tissues" instead of Kleenex.    It is the same "thing" but it doesn't have the trademark name.

You can sell a generic equivalent of any "thing" that is available on the market, with one limitation.  The limitation is that you cannot sell a product that is still under patent protection.  That is why new medicines have no generic equivalent until they have been marketed for several years.

  3. Yup, unless it has a patent on it.
