A friend of mine won 2 tickets to a NASCAR race and he is not a big nascar fan. He found someone who is willing to buy them but his agreement with the sponsering company says the tickets are "non-transferable." How do you get around this?

  1. sell them... gift them... they belong to him

  2. sell them anyway. the radio station wont know you sold him. defiantly don't put anything like that on ebay because thats when you can get into trouble

  3. Will-call tix ... probably not.

Tix in-hand are up for grabs to the highest bidder.

  4. You can resell most any prize won from a radio station without a problem. The one exception is tickets.

Others have given advice here that you will probably follow. I can neither agree nor disagree - nor offer advice. But I'll give you a couple of observations.

None of what follows is official, I just want you to be aware that all the station give-away tickets are very likely to be in one section - and the sponsors and station people who attend may also be in the same section.

Is this going to be a problem? Who knows? That's why I wimped-out on the advice. Probably not, but it is possible that they'll want to take a group photo for the station newsletter, posting on the website, or something similar. It could become a problem if they need your name for the photo or other promotional reason.

Someone in your position might go to the station's website. there should be a complete set of rules buried in there somewhere. You might read up on the station's policy. Then act accordingly. The words non-transferrable are on just about all tickets to any event (to prevent scalping). Remember the station got the tickets from the sponsor who got them from the track or NASCAR, then transferred them to your friend. It's not like these are virgin tickets ;<)

Instead of just tickets, I've heard of people who just sell an "Evening Out" with dinner (a happy meal certificate) for the full price they want. Then they include the tickets for free.

Some states have eased off their ticket reselling policies recently. In Florida, as I now understand it, there's been a recent change. In the past, even Ebay wouldn't allow you to sell tickets for more than the face value + $1. That appears to have changed and, as far as I can tell, you can list tickets for any price the market will bear.
