Can you sell baby fish to a fish store for money?

i have a lot of baby fish in my tank and i am looking to get read of them, but i dont want to kill them! would a store by any chance buy them for some money?

  1. It's unlikely that you're going to find a pet store to take the baby fish (fry), but they may take them when they're older.  I work at a pet store, and we take platies, guppies etc. from people fairly often as long as they are almost full grown.  As far as pay, we sometimes pay people for the fish, but more often we just 'trade' for other kinds of fish (that's often what people would rather do).  Not all pet stores will take fish like that though, so you might want to call around and see what the policies are at stores close by.  


  2. Most fish stores will not buy fish from a non registered breeder.  Some mom and pop stores will take them for a credit towards other purchases in the store.  These fish are used as feeders for their other fish, just so you know.  They are not sold.

    A fish stores reputation is put on the line with the quality of stock they sell.  They won't buy from non registered breeders for that reason, however feeders are always welcome.
