Say i have a zero coupon bond in hand, meaning its not being held by my broker but its physically in my hand. Can I sell the bond without having to let anyone know I sold it? Or do i have to register the sale with the SEC or what?

  1. depends if you name is on the bond , if not yes

  2. The only bonds that can be traded without going through a broker are called bearer bonds. These are unregistered, negotiable securities. The principal and interest are payable to whoever holds them. If the bonds in question are not bearer bonds, then it's time to call your broker if you wish to sell them.

I don't know of any zero coupon bonds that fit the bearer bond classification.
