Can you send an email as a text message to someone w/ out internet on their cell phone?

my friend once sent emails to her friend using yahoo email. this went to his phone as a text & i was wondering how she did it.

Yes, you can. Just enter their number. But it's best if they text the email first and you just reply. Otherwise it may not work if it's normal e-mail.
