Question:

Can you send power from a monochannel amp to different outputs?

yesterday i bought 2 10" alpine 500 watt rms subs and a 1000 watt mono channel amp. i haven't bought any speakers yet and was planning only to replace the front speakers in my car(i drive a 2006 civic sudan). now i'm worried that the subs will greatly over power the speakers once i get those replaced. i'm not interested in getting a head unit because i'd like to keep the factory look, and it's difficult to replace the head unit in my car. is there a way that i can pull like 200 watts from my amp and give it to the speakers? will i have enough power otherwise?

thanks

  1. you will have to use a line out converter for the RCA's to keep the factory stereo. you will also have to get a small 2 or 4 ch amp for the speakers, you dont want to be sending your sub freqs and 500 watts to your front speakers.

  2. no you cant send power to your car speakers from your mono amp. mono amps don't really do higher frequencies very well, because they are class D amps. i would say just hook up your subwoofers to the amp. you can always turn the gains down until you have the volume you desire. if havin the gains down still makes your bass drown out the speakers (which it shouldn't) then you will need to get a 4 channel amp to run all the car speakers, and if you plan on keeping the stock headunit then you will need a line output convertor (like 2 bucks at walmart) to hook the amp to the stereo.

but you should consider having a new stereo professionally installed. they do a good job of making the car stereo look like it was made to be that way. they usually come with trays that fit under the hearunit to cover up any gaps and make the car appear stock. and with an aftermarket headunit you will have much better sound.

  3. you will want to replace the stock head unit unless it has RCA outputs, if it does then route the RCA outputs to a stock four channel. i use two alpine 400watt rms four channels in my car and it works great, im not sure of the model number but i recommend them to compliment your sub amp. if you do not have rca outputs on your amp you really wanna change your head unit, i was like you a year ago thinking RCA converters where fine but believe me the direct sub output and RCA cable capability of an aftermarket head unit blows away anything stock.
