Can you send text messages while abroad?

I might be in Israel this summer with a friend. Can we send texts to each other on our US cell phones? Does it cost more or is it just the same (since texts are pre-paid each month).

Of course you can. Do you think that the US is the only country that has text system? Do you know how backward US telecommunication technology is? In some countries, they dont even charge you anything to text.
