For example, the side step, would that really work? I mean of course, some of that stuff in the show wont actually work, but some of it can right? Like in sometimes other animes show real fighting techniques, right?

  1. Nothing useful. If you think about it, knowing techniques isn't nearly as important as practicing techniques under the scrutiny of a capable instructor.

So, yes, you could try to mimic some techniques in that show. However, without somebody who actually knows what they're doing to help correct your form, you'd probably perform them wrong.

Furthermore, the only decent techniques that stuck out to me were...

Kao Loi (head clinch + knee to face)

Leg kicks (when he defeated Takeda)

Kneebar, which that big burly guy with the long hair did to Kenichi. Except, in real life, his knee would've snapped within seconds.

Also, there was this awesome shoulder throw that Kenichi did when mimicking his Jujutsu master when fighting Odin.

The side-step thing would only work if your opponent overcommitted to an attack. If you're fighting somebody competent, it won't happen that much.

Long story short, go to a legit gym/dojo/dojang/kwoon/school if you want to actually learn something that you can apply. Anime-learning won't work.
