Can you shrink from being a vegetarian?

I have heard from a few people that they have shrunk seen becoming a vegetarian, I don't understand how that would happen.

Do you really shrink if you stop eating meat?

If so, Is it really a noticeable difference?

Also if you become a Vegetarian in your early teens like 13, will that slow down your growth and make you shorter then your really supposed to be?

  1. That's ludicrous.  Your height is determined almost exclusively by genetics.  And the American Dietetic Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics both approve of vegetarian diets for all life stages, including growing children.  Statistics bear out the fact that people raised vegetarian follow the same growth curve as the general population and achieve the same average adult height.

    As for osteoporosis, the nations that suffer the MOST osteoporosis are the ones that consume the MOST dairy, and the nations that experience the least osteoporosis are the ones that hardly consume any dairy at all.  Calcium is readily available on even a vegan diet from a variety of plant sources.


  2. As in... losing weight? Yeah, it can happen, especially if you eat less junky foods, but you're not going to get shorter.

    Edit: Gotcha! And for the record (lol anecdote time~), I've went vegetarian at 13 and I'm almost 6' as an adult. So no, veg*nism doesn't stunt yer growth. :p

  3. well ,it is back to the animal right freaks again ,worrying about thermelves again! the answer to your question is as folows. you will not shrink ,or lose weight ,so long as you people keep yourselves at a minimum . if the slaughter of animals for food came to a halt today ,we would be overrun with animals ,eating all of the vegetation ,thus you would shrink and so would the animals ,as people would not raise the animals for free. would you? no . you would turn them loose to fend for themselves.

  4. im a guy and I'm 15.  I've been vegetarian since October and it seems like I've lost some muscle but I gained 5 pounds aha.

  5. it wont make you shrink, but you may not grow as much as you would if you ate meat however if you can get the necessary protein from other sources (soy, peanuts etc.) then you wont be affected

  6. 3 of my sisters have been vegatarian since they were 12,and all that is c**p.you don't shrink and your growth is normal.

  7. Vegan people can easily get EVERY nutrient that we need so anyone that says you will shrink is talking out of their @ss and is extremely rude and inconsiderate for spreading misinformation.

  8. Most vegetarians don't know how to properly eat, therefore they don't eat enough protein, then you will however lose muscle mass. If one knows how to properly assimulate protein into their diet then, that individual vegetarian will not lose muscle/weight. Most vegetarians eat too much carbs and not enough protein like eggs, milk, soy products (tofu), legumes, beans and all sorts of nuts, which should be a vital part of their diet...

  9. It's a delayed effect. People - especially women and more especially light-boned women - who reduce the effectiveness of their calcium metabolism during adolescence are more likely to find themselves with osteoporosis as they approach old age. And osteoporosis does indeed make you shrink.

    It's wise to remember that growing young people require a higher quality diet than adults. 18 is a good minimum age for going veggie.

  11. I started in the summer of 5th grade and I haven't gotten any shorter.
