Can you sign up for a contact lenses eye exam under the age of 18 by yourself?

I am thinking about getting contacts after wearing glasses for a long periof of time.

I am 17 and almost 18 in 2 months but I was just wondering if I have to wait until 18 to sign up for an eye exam by myself or can I just do it at 17 by myself if I have the money.

Please only answer if you know for a fact or a source.
