My auntie says that when you listen to a song and sing along with it and record yourself. And do that long enough, then you can get the right notes? And she said that taking voice lessons is a waste of your money. But I don't think that's true. Any help? Please? Thanks so much! :)

  1. Dear Whitney,

Your auntie is right and wrong....

First of all, she is wrong about listening to any song... because for all you know that singer might be out of tone or out of tune ... tone is the quality of sound or richness... and tune is the pitch of the note. I hope I am making sence to you.

However she is right in respect to listening to a song that has a singer who is able to produce a clearness and purity in every note.... Good examples are Classical Singers...

If you have a piano at home ... press any white key and then try to match that notes pitch ... usually saying "Doe"

I know this sounds Cheezy but maybe listening to the movie 'The Sound of Music" with julie andrews Singing that song Do - Ray - Me - Fa - So - Lah - Te- Do .. will help you get your notes into pitch ... because once you have that scale momorized ... you'll be in tune... then you work on the richness or purity of your voice.

Then once you get those fundimentals down... you can work on vibrato... dianamics... and all that jazz.

Just make sure you listen to good examples.

    hope this helps you.

    Love and Blessings,

    Lord's Child

  2. Voice lessons teach you breath control and how to form notes clearly.  It teaches you how to sound good when singing something really fast, with lots of notes.  It is absolutely worth the money if you have some talent.  It can help you not strain your voice and help you develop stamina.  Professional singers take vocal lessons as do professional dancers.  They are always trying to improve their technique.

I've heard that American Idol Jordin Sparks had to quit performing for a while because she kept straining her voice.  She never had any lessons.

  3. take voice lessons. for sure.

you may be good, but you could be better.

technique is very key is vocal performance.

if not trained, you could damage your voice and run into a lot of problems.:]]

  4. Some people are born naturals and other people have to be trained to be able to sing well, but still, a natural singer will always sound better.

  5. Do what you think is right. Voice lessons aren't as important as if you took an instrumnet but I advise you take them

  6. don't believe her. the best way to proffesional learn to sing is through voice lessons, and it's a great way to learn techniques and great for singing resumes.

  7. Of course you can sing without taking voice lessons lots of people do for fun -  and if you happen to have a lot of natural talent and sing on pitch - good for you - but no matter  how well you can sing naturally - you will always sing better ( and longer without losing your voice) if you find a really good vocal coach to teach you to breathe properly and support your voice and tone and to expand your talent and your range.

It is not a waste of money if you are serious about becoming really really good. If you just sing in the shower and for fun - then no you don't need to take lessons. But if you wanted to be an Olympic ice skater you'd be out on the ice with a private coach every day!

  8. I recommend voie lessons. You may think you sing awesome, but you still need voice lessons!!
