I'm living w/ not only algebra every day...

acceleration in every move of my body while preparing to work  

speed=d/t , from house to work place

while on the bed to sleep, i calculate first the inclination of my body in degrees .......

also, Physics, calculus,geometry

Temperature of A/C, weighing my body

Algebra may not be a life saving skill for some but  it's application is very important not  only to those who are in business, for people who are working as engineers, scientist, astronomers, statistics /research.  It is also important to people who want to live above the just common/regular folks.

Example: On a liter of petrol, a car can travel 18 km. But  one morning you only have 3/4 liter of petrol in your car. You are scheduled for a very important  job interview which is about  135 km away. You are short on the cash side (your money in your wallet may not be enough)  and   you aren't sure if your  your credit card is still ok. There's no one   close around to  borrow  money from. This is just a simple algebra  problem. If you know how to calculate it  could be a life altering situation for you.

you can use algebra to compute how much a project, say installing a new bathroom, costs. you can factor in the man-hours, wages, materials, equipment, transportation, and then you'll know that you cannot afford it

I've used some simple algebra calculating savings and raises, all money related but no college level algebra.

Yes, of course, always in the medical field algebra is very useful. If you want a high paying job you need to know it.
