  1. Hey there!!

    I can solve a Rubik's cube!

My time is about 50 sec to a min.

    I use the beginner's method.

My fastest record is 39.45 sec, by just using the beginner's method.

I'm working on the fridrich's method.

And my time for that is around a min.

  2. It took me almost 20 years to learn to solve it, working hard on it for a few days, then taking a few years off. I didn't want to just look up a method. I figured out various techniques for the bottom third. A friend of mine showed me 1 trick, which gets you the middle third. Using trial and error and a basic understanding of group theory, I eventually figured out techniquest to first place the top corners, then rotate the top corners into the correct orientation, then place and orient the top edges. It takes me about 3 1/2 minutes when I'm in practice, about 5-6 minutes if I haven't done it in a while. There are websites that teach you techniques to do it faster.

I far prefer the challenge of a 5x5x5 cube which I modified by putting pictures on the sides so that each piece is unique. Ironically, there's one problem, unique to the 5x5x5 cube, that you can never run into if you have all unique pieces, but the other added difficulties make up for that. All in all, this cube takes me about 35 minutes in practice, 45 minutes out of practice. If I s***w up too late in the process, I have to repeat some early steps and it can add a lot of extra time.

I also sometimes do a 4x4x4 cube, but I haven't done it in a while. Currently my 4x4x4 cube has no stickers on it, so I can solve it instantly. I meant to put unique images on each side, but never got around to it. When I used to use it, with solid colors on each side, it took me around 30 minutes.

I've always wanted one of the larger cubes, 6x6x6 or even 7x7x7. Rubiks doesn't make them and the people who do don't mass produce them, so they cost over $100 each, which just isn't worth it to me.

Here's the method I developed for the 5x5x5 cube:

    1) Solve the middle 9 of the bottom.

    2) Solve the bottom half of the middle 9 on the sides.

    3) Match up the middle edges and put them into place.

    4) Get the corners of the middle 9 of the top onto the top side.

    5) Orient "corner pieces", which are made up of the corners of three adjacent middles.

    6) Orient those corners correctly.

    7) Match up the middle edges of the top and sides and put them into place.

    8) Solve the middle 3 on each edge, essentially creating edge pieces.

    9) Now you have middle pieces, edge pieces, and the very corners are their own pieces. Solve this like a traditional 3x3x3 cube.

I left off the details of how you do each step, the directions on how to handle cubes with unique images on each side, and the special 5x5x5 problems you don't see on other cubes. There are websites where you can look all that up.

  3. Yeup =] It's not that hard once you understand the concepts and logic, and memorize the necessary algs XP

I use full Fridrich and have achieved times of 13 seconds, but as of now I only average at 18 seconds >.<
