Can you solve this destination ridddle?

Question

Two groups are contemplating on when they should leave to reach their destination. Group A believes that if they left right now, then they will reach their destination first. Group B believes that if they left two days from now, then they would get to the destination before group A.

Where was their destination? By the way, the type of vehicle used or shortcuts to get there are not factors which contribute to where their destination is.

Hint 1 - Both vehicles took a direct path to their destination

Hint 2 - Group A had a longer path than group B

they were going to the moon.  group a had to go at a tangent to intersect with it and group b waited until it was lined up better
