PLEASE HELP! This is the problem:

Mr. Frosty owns a local ice cream parlor and yogurt stand. His single scoop cone sells for 89 cents and the "giant earthquake" of eight scoops sells for $6.07. The cost of the ice cream cone varies linearly with the number of scoops.

*define variables, write the ordered pairs, find the slope, and write the particular equation expressing cost in terms of the number of scoops

Thanks so much

  2. Hello,

    Don't  worry it is a very simple problem.

    We can solve this problem by using one point slope form;

    Let us first we collect data from the given problem.

    Data

    let C0=the selling price of one(x0=1) scoop.=89 cents

    and C1=thje selling price of eight(x1=8) scoops=706 cents

    Thus our variables are x and C, representing number of scoops and their corresponding selling price respectively.

    Now we find slope by using the  one point slope intercept form

                         (C1-C0)/(x1=x0)=m(slope) -----------> say eqn(1)

    Substituting all the values from data we have

                         (706-89)/(8-1)

                        m =74

    Now use eqn (1) and put the values of m,x0,and C0 to find the particular eqaution

                (C-89)=74(x-1)

    simplifing, we get

         C=74*x+15  ------> eqn(2)

    which is the required equation that can be used for any value of x to find the cost of ice cream.

    To find the ordered pairs we just put the values of x from 1 to onward

    in eqn(2) we can have order pairs as shown bellow

               x                              Cost (C)                    ordered pair

                1                                 89                       (1,89)

                2                               163                        (2,163)

                3                               237                        (3,237)

                4                               331                        (4,311)

                5                               385                        (5, 385)

                6                               459                        (6,459)

                7                               533                         (7,533)

                8                               607                         (8,607)

    and so on so forth.

  3. Do your own homework, hah.

  4. single scoop = 0.89

    8 scoops = 6.07

    but one scoop would cost 0.76

    let y = cost of ice cream

    let x = number of scoops

    ordered pairs: ( 1 , 0.89) , ( 8 , 6.07)

    to write the equation you must first find the slope

    slope = y2 - y1 / x2- x1

             = (6.07 - 0.89 ) / (8-1)

             = 5.18 / 7

             = 0.74

    your equation would be

    y = 0.74x + somenumber

    if you plug in one for x and 0.89 for y, solve for the "somenumber"

    0.89 = 0.74 (1) + somenumber

    somenumber = 0.15

    therefore your final equation would be

    y = 0.74x + 0.15
