Question:

Can you spray paint a blow dryer?

Ok. I just got this really expensive vintage blow dryer and it's white. But I want to spray paint it a funky color to jazz it up a bit. I didn't know if it would be harmful to me when I use it since it gets hot and on the spray paint can it says "Do not put in extreme heat" so...is it safe for me to do that?

Thank you!♥

  1. I doubt it. I wouldn't because If you get the paint to close it might burn when the hair dryer is turned on.

  2. http://www.sprayproducts.com/high-heat-s...

Not many "funky" colors though.  Maybe some red stripes?

  3. 1/ Research the brand

2/ Check out safety from consumer reports

3/ Is the dryer metal or plastic

4/ Research paint and temp ratings

5/ Cheaper to buy a 15.00 dollar one

  4. If it is a metal dryer I would think it would be safe to spray paint it as long as it was a heat resistant metal paint. As crazy as this may sound you could get advice from a body shop that specializes in metal paints and get expert advice!

  5. ehhhh.. sure it can be done. if we got men on the moon im sure we can get that dryer to be hot pink or whatever.

youd have to take it all apart. cover the inside plastic with tape so it doesnt get paint on it, paint the outside with heat resistant paint, put it together.

of course, no quarrentees the paint wont scratch off.

  6. I don't think it's going to get -that- hot or it would burn you during use.  If it is plastic, you need a paint specifically designed to work on plastic, such as http://www.misterart.com/store/view.cfm?... that you can find at more complete paint stores.  I like 'pumpkin gloss' myself, :-)

If it's metal, scuff it up with some fine abrasive and just use a good spray enamel.

In either case, carefully mask off the switches, the intakes and exhaust with masking tape, trimming carefully, before you start spraying.

And remember, a few light coats is better than one heavy coat.

  7. Well you could try it but I don't know if it would work and be safe.

So...I wouldn't risk it because I know how much most of those cost and I wouldn't just throw away your money.

Try going to Lowe's or Home Depot and asking a sales assistant in the Paint department.

Good Luck...by the way I love your name *wink*wink*

Never seen anyone spell it the same as me!

  8. no.. but you can blow dry a paint sprayer

  9. I would not recommend it for the fear of dispersing toxic fumes when the blow dryer is running. I suppose you can use a high heat resistant spray paint made for ovens or grills if it is something that you have to do.

  10. I don't think it's a good idea.  Plus, when it does heat up the spray paint could get all over you!
