Of Grace, Egrets and Geckos

By Cynthia S.

George and Gracie, frozen, sit upon the sill

Watching Great White Egret out for a morning kill.

My tail is twitching madly, George, what can this be?

I know that was my gecko, I was saving it for me!

Gracie, my dear, can’t you see that thing is 3 feet tall!

The only thing it will do to you is peck and scratch and maul!

Gracie stared at Egret Great, he stared back in kind.

George and I are quite convinced, Grace has lost her mind!

  1. Aim big Graceie, aim big! Terrific descriptive narrative, oops, scrap that, yes I do mean, animalia dialogue. (I never done english studies at school, I dunno what to call them fancy words for stuff) One good term deserves another I guess.

I love the lightness and humour in this. Life and animals can be quirky and spontaneous. Well done!

It she doesn't catch the bird it will be a case of "non je ne egret rien"

  2. Whoopee would have run for cover under the bed. Gracie is a  very brave kitty (or a crazy one).  I like the rhyming dialogue couplets. The poem flows very well.

  3. I like it. I will go back and read the others. I have been busy.

  4. Gracie sounds like she is a true "cat".  Always mindful of her genetic ancestry - she is the tiger huntress of the forest. ♥

  5. This is done well and flows.  Try fill instead of "kill".  Kill seemed harsh.  Just a thought.
