Can you start a jet ski in the middle of the winter?

  1. Provided you've got fuel, oil and a good battery, starting it for a few seconds shouldn't hurt anything. A friend of mine has some stand up Kawasakis and we routinely run them 15-20 seconds out of the water to clear as much water as possible out of them.

    And a shop near my home has, in addition to a run tank for trouble shooting, a flatbed they use to take skis to the lake if they can't get the problem trouble shot in the run tank. They ride the things year round.

    I don't think there's any real problem with it. Not for a few seconds.

  2. I agree with jettech, difinitely do not run it too long out of the water. If it has a 2 stroke engine, make sure you get it started before your potential buyer shows up as they tend to be stubborn in the cold weather.
