  1. yes you can and you heard wrong

  2. If you don't have the money they should not turn you away, just let them know you don't have any money!

  3. not that i know of. Alot of shelters around here aren't accepting any more people because they are full. so you might wanna check that out too.

  4. No it is free but, most have very strict rules and a limit on how long you are able to stay. In the shelter I volunteer at:

    1. You must stay in your own wing.

    2. You must complete your chores. During chore time, no TV, music, or phone.

    3. You must watch your children at all time.

    4. You must be in the building by 8:00.

    5. Kitchen is closed at 9:00.

    6. Children must have eaten dinner by 7:00.

That is just a few. Good luck!

  5. they are free there are limits about length of stay etc that vary from place to place

  6. they are free but you can't use them as a hotel or anything. like if you visit another city, you can't sleep at a shelter so you don't have to spend money at a hotel for an example. you have to be really homeless.

  7. no theyre free but some might be full...get there 2 hrs ahead of opening time

  8. You do not have to pay to stay at a homeless shelter. They do fill up quickly though. To make sure that you get in, arrive 2 hours before they open their doors.

You MUST really be homelesss though. You can't stay their because you are visiting a city and can't pay for a hotel.

How do you have internet access if you are homeless though?

    Hmmm....

  9. In what city?  As far as I know, shelters in Philly are free - if there's space for you.

  10. Shelters are not supposed to charge you.  Some even get you training for a job.  Then get you a job and help you find a place to live.  Also, some of these shelters work to get you welfare by using their address until you get your own place.  ( you must have an address to receive welfare).

  11. Actually, it depends. Where I live (Houston, TX) most shelters do charge a small fee and also have other restrictions. It's best to call (if you can) before you show up to check their specific requirements.

  12. Homeless shelters are free and they fill up quickly. I am wondreing if you are homeless how do you have access to a computer? Because to use a computer in a library you need a library card. And to have a library card you need an address or a home. Which means you are not homeless. If you are in a cafe then you need to pay by the hour. Which means you do have some money. If you are at home and thinking of running away then there better be a good reason...like abuse of some kind

  13. Depends on where you are in most cities the free ones are first come first serve, there would be a line that forms at 5pm or so.  Some religious ones wont even let you work or earn money until you have had a year or so of intense Bible study and some will make sure you affirm you are a Christian otherwise they will turn you away.  Some want you to work and will take a portion of your check.  Some domestic violence ones will make you quit your job so you won't be tracked by your abuser.

You should call 211, all but about 2 states have it.  It is a social services referral line equivalent to 911.  They can give you a list of shelters in your area and their requirements...and maybe even some other possible options.

  14. its free but theres usually a lot of waiting
