I have a VERY mild form of Asperger Syndrome - but my dream job would be something like a phycologist. Can I still be a phycologist or will I have to look into something else?

  1. i think you still can and this may even help you.

  2. Of course you can. There are actually quite a few Aspies who are psychologists. I could only wish that my psychologist would be an Aspie as well, but she doesn't come across that way to me, though I have yet to meet her in person.

Anyway, do whatever you want to do - you know Aspies have special interests, and if this is one of your special interests, you could probably become a superior psychologist.

    Good luck.

  3. I have a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome myself and have become a successful Software Engineer. i see no reason why you couldn't apply it to any other professional qualification, regardless of our social constraints. You can develop a level of understanding for someones emotions and actions when they are telling you straight about them, despite not being able to empathise or relate socially with them

  4. Most of them have some psychological condition. My psychiatrist was in therapy for a while. Just go for it.

  5. you might struggle if you can't learn to spell.

  6. i don't see why not. you seem to be high functioning and i have always believed that with the propper amount of discipline, you can accomplish anything.

  7. d**n, woman - if you only have a mild form of it (like myself) then you can go on to do whatever you want - you'll just have to work a wee bit harder at it.

In saying that, I suppose it depends on what you symptoms are. I know some folk out there are unable to really decipher others' emotions/feelings; - doubt that would be very good for being a shrink.

...I got a thumbs down for saying what is true?

  8. A pyschologist in session is a professional and acts in a way independent of personal biases and constraints (or at least as much as is humanly possible). Out of work, a pyschologist is just as suspectible to pyschological factors as one of their patients.

As long as you can take this outward professional perspective then you shouldnt have a problem.
