  1. yeah, i guess, it the tornado rips the entire house out, but probobly not, dw.

  2. Yeah... Basements aren't tornado proof. There just for better protection!

  3. ...If the house crumbles in on you, yeah!

  4. If your house like caves in on you or you starve to death because your trapped. Keep emergency supplies in your basement like blankets, bottled water, flash lights, and prepackaged food items.

  5. yes if your directly in a tornadoes path then you better be in a basement with a strong mega super table or something that will encase you if the house falls down on you.. better to be in a tornado cellar..

  6. Yes... things can fall on you, the house can fall on you, you can get sucked up even thought you're in your basement... you can get hit by objects in the tornado etc

FaZizzle what are you talking about??? A F3, F4, or F5 will kill you if you're in your basement. Being a storm chaser I've seen many people die in their basement. I was there for the F5 in Greensburg and saw it.

  7. It is always possible to die at any given time...a tornado just increases that risk.  If you are in an inclosed basement then you should be ok.

  8. Yes, the house could collapse into the basement.  It is safer than anywhere else in the house though.

  9. sadly yes but that is still the best place to be.

    there are alot of ways

    flying objects

the house falls in on you

something in the basement falls on you

you are lifted out of the basement with the tornado

all you can do is the best you can and have faith in God and if you do all you can do to be safe and its not your time to go you will be ok...

  10. it's possible.. flying debris and a collapsed building could kill you, but you're a whole lot safer in the basement than any other place in your house.

  11. well yeah

but there isnt a good chance of you dying

there is a small chance that you will even

    be taken away by it

  12. A tornado is a wind vortex which can be as gentle as a dust devil to a 300MPH F-5 vortex

The wind is not what causes deaths, it is what the wind does that causes deaths.

Flying debris: Tornados have been known to embed straw into trees

compromised structures: Tornados can pick up a whole house and gently place it several feet to several hundred feet from its foundation.    Also, the winds can blow in windows causing shrapnel wounds.  Roofs can be ripped from the top of structures causing a structure to collapse.

among other things, most deaths are directly due to structural collapse or flying debris.  While the basement will provide the most protection from flying debris, it is wise to find a corner and crouch.  Most collapses leave triangles and the corner is the safest place.......the triangular void after a structural collapse will save your life.

While there are no confirmation or affirmations of the below article,  the information has SOME value as you don't want to be in the center of the basement should the structure above you collapse into the basement.....the corner is the best, in my opinion, place to be......and away from ANY windows.

  13. yes if the first floor falls on you

  14. yes and no

    1) Tornadoes may not directly hit your house. Tornadoes are relatively small in size compared to a hurricane, so you may get damage but not destroyed.

    2) Any place that is low - bathroom, interior closet, basement - will provide protection. I could go into wind flow and the best location, but protecting yourself from debris will be the big thing.

So can the tornado kill you? Of course!

Will a tornado kill you? Unlikely.

You are more likely to die of an infection caused by a tornado than you are of a tornado itself.

And no - I've BEEN in the basement with a direct hit from an F5 tornado. It DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL BE KILLED. If you are out in the open in your living room, sure. BUT the basement offers protection and often will be the only area left with a toilet or a wall.

  15. yeah, it is possible. But it will definetly decrease your chances of dieing. The best thing to do is stay in your basement, avoid windows, and stand in the door sill. (the door still is a strong point of your house)

  16. No you cannot because a tornado can sweep everything  from above the earth. The main precaution in such hazard prone areas is escaping to the basement. So, you must not be dead if you are in the basement.

  17. You can die walking down the street on a bright sunny day, but you are better off in your basement during a tornado.

  18. Yes, it is possible.

  19. Yes.  Though the basement is thought to be the safest place, a structural collapse can lead to injuries or death.

  20. There's always a chance..But it's definately less likely if your in the basement..

  21. yes...its possible

just make sure your in a small room with no windows cause if your not then the window could get broken and killed...or a tree can fall into your basement or something....who knows...but yeah you could die...

like the tornado can fling a trashcan at you...

    or...

debris from your house can fall on you...

    or...

the wind could push you into something shape and you could bleed to death..

you can die in so many ways...

you can die walking down the street...

but a tornado makes it a lot easier to die...
