Can you still exchange italian lire?

when i was cleaning out my great grandfathers house i found a significant high amount of italian lire can i still exchange them or just throw them away

  1. Thomas Exchange UK Limited at 13 Maddox Street, London W1S 2QG will convert valid Italian banknotes for pounds until 29th February 2012 when they will loose all value and become worthless!!  If you can't make it in person post them by Royal Mail Special Delivery (NOT recorded delivery as it does not cover cash) - they will post you back a cheque or credit your bank account direct.
