Can you still get your PPL or a LSA sport pilot certification when you have had a seizure in the past? My cousin had this happen to him. He had a seizure like 5 years ago and is currently still on medication. Are there any comprimeses from the FAA that will still allow you to fly?

  1. No you cannot...any seizure or epilepsy.... if you do not declare your proper medical history..you may get it..in that case you are going to have very high risk and u may put or and someone else's life in danger..

my advise to you DON'T think about it... dun bring the risk back in your life..

    God bless!

    Striker..

  2. dont think so. you may possibly scrap through with some kind of condition to have a 2 pilot crew at all times and only fly dual controls but only if you are veryy lucky. Good news though, you might just be very lucky. I was I had a hystory of migrane and I scraped through with a shortened class 2 and a normal class 1. also scraped theough with asthma too. only cos i maxed out the spyrometry anyway.

  3. Pretty unlikely, especially if he is still taking meds for it. He can however find an FAA medical examiner and ask him/her. Also, AOPA (www.aopa.org) might be able to help. They regularly figure out medical problems for pilots.

  4. I'm not sure on this one.  It sounds like a disqualifying condition, but the FAA has supposedly been a bit better about reviewing on a case-by-case basis.  The best option would be to talk to AOPA.

  5. Any history of seizures is normally disqualifying for an FAA medical unless it was a single instance of seizure prior to age 5 that has not required continuing medication.  The final decision is up to the FAA; occasionally it grants the medical but it requires a lot of supporting documentation and it's fairly rare.

Sport pilots don't need a medical, and as long as they have not failed a FAA medical in the past they can get a license.  However, if a person knows that he could not pass a third-class medical, the FAA expects him not to apply for the sport license, and if it later discovers that a sport pilot has a medically disqualifying condition, it will pull the license (at the very least).

  6. i had seizures when i was a baby, and i was able to get my first class medical.  however, that was for a specific illness that has been taken care of; i havnt had seizures in 16 years (i am seventeen) but i was able to get a medical.  they reviewed my case and im licensed under like a special reg or something; but you might as well try.
