  1. I believe that there are cruises that follow that route but they do not look for speed records as they want you to spend money on board. As mentioned, there are passenger carrying freighters, some that operate on a regular schedule. I believe the accomodations/food are good. What is lacking is the entertainment available on cruise ships or the traditional liners. A web search should give you alternatives and you might ask a travel agent to get the info for you.


  2. All the major cruise lines like Norwegian, Holland, Princess make the cruise across the Atlantic in the Spring and Fall as they move ships from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean and back again for the next tourist season.

    The cruise usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Occasionally they make cruises from the East Coast US to Ireland / England / France etc.  

    Check the individual cruise line web sites and sites like Travel Zoo for cruise schedule and cost..

  3. Yes and no.

    There are no passenger liners any more. The demand is too low.

    but you can take a ride on commercial liners (like tankers, etc.)  But you have to travel in very grungy style.
