Can you still get a seatbelt ticket if your car has no seatbelts?

Like say your cars a 55 Plymouth that doesn't have seatbelts, can you still get a ticket?

Get a set of seat belts and install them in your 55 Plymouth and use them. They may save your life. That is the reason for their existence. The grandfather part of the law will not keep you in the car in an accident.

OH if your in Texas you will definately get a ticket. They probably make you fix the seat belt and show that you have in court. Remember Texas motto Click it or Ticket.  The ticket cost me around $185.00 once it is not worth it at all.

If the car never had seatbelts, you dont have to have them.  There is a certain year they go back to and say you dont have to have them and I believe it starts1960's.

Yes, you should get them installed.  It's cheaper than paying the ticket!

Depending on the state, some states require you install seatbelts if your car is not registered as a historical car.

Some states don't require you to get them at all, but the Police will still write you the ticket, then you have to go Court and fight it and then you end up paying Court fees.

The easiest thing to do is find out what your state requires, then carry a copy of said law in your car so you can show the officer.

I have a friend with a diesel truck that is over weight and doesn't require an inspection sticker, but she still gets pulled over all the time and kept getting tickets until she printed out the law and started showing it to police when they pulled her over.

15. Rear Red Reflectors (2)

16. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models)

17. Head Lamps (2)

18. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number

19. 1988 & newer - inspect for window tinting or coating

20. Gas caps on vehicles 2-24 model years old.

Like the cal. answer states if it doesnt have seat belts from the factory, you cant get a ticket, BUT

IF

you put seat belts in , they MUST be used.

No, you won't get a seatbelt ticket if the vehicle is legal and was not manufactured without them.

This is part of the California vehicle code dealing with seat belts:

27314.  (a) No dealer shall sell or offer for sale any used

passenger vehicle that was manufactured on or after January 1, 1962,

other than a motorcycle, unless it is equipped with at least two

seatbelts which are installed for the use of persons in the front

seat of the vehicle.

   (b) No dealer shall sell or offer for sale any used passenger

vehicle manufactured on or after January 1, 1968, other than a

motorcycle, unless it is equipped with seatbelts for each seating

position.

   (c) Seatbelts required in subdivisions (a) and (b) shall comply

with regulations established by the department.

   (d) The requirements of this section shall not apply to sales to

dealers, automobile dismantlers, or junk dealers.
