Question:

Can you still get a ticket even though the cop didn't say he was writing you one?

I just got pulled over for forgetting to turn my brights off and the cop suspected me of drinking (which I was NOT). He took my liscence, walked to his car, then came back. I couldn't find my insurance card and offered to call my parents and ask where it was at (since they stuck it somewhere in my car) but he told me not to worry about it. He didn't say anything about writing me any tickets but could I still have gotten one that will show up later?

  1. Don't worry about a thing.

A court summons is always handed out on the spot, not something they're going to send you "sometime later".  You simply forgot to turn your brights off, which is a common mistake people make after leaving a dark forested area and suddenly driving into a well-lit town. Cops often make claims about drivers looking like they've been drinking to try to nab the few idiots who'll break down and immediately admit their guilt.

  2. You would to have had to sign a ticket.  They tell you signing it is just you promising to appear in court, and is not an admission of guilt.  He didn't give you anything to sign, so you didn't get a ticket.

  3. No, your fine, he probably told you he was giving you a warning, but you were so nervous you didn't hear it.

Generally if your going to receive a traffic citation, you will receive it at the time of the stop.

The reason why he suspected you of drinking is that many times forgetting to turn the high beams off is a sign of a drunk driver, (30% of people who do are OVI) so that is most likely the reason he pulled you over.

There may be a note on the department computer system that says you were pulled over, but nothing remotely offical.

  4. NO!! you have got nothing to worry about/ and whatsmore the Rozzer would look more stupid filing your report especially as he didn't request you showing your insurance at the local P/S

  5. No, if you didn't get a ticket right then and there then you didn't get a ticket. Congratulations.

And no to the record thing too.
