  1. Absolutely.  In the movie "Count of Monte Cristo", hey proposed to here and she wore a string on her finger.  Silly example, but it's about the commitment, not the ring! :)

  2. of course you can.  the ring is just more of a formality thing... CONGRATS!

  3. Yes, you can get engaged without a ring. You don't even need to get an engagement ring later. I'm engaged, and I'm not getting a ring until our wedding, when we'll both get wedding bands. Personally I think it's stupid to have both an engagement ring and a wedding ring.

  4. getting engaged before marriage is not required, so a ring wouldn't be. i think the point of rings a stupid anyway, you shouldn't need a piece of metal to show your intense feelings for someone you truly love.

  5. It's not about the 'bling', it's about the symbolism - so of course it's nice to have an engagement ring.

If he can't cough up 100 for a ring, how in the world are you two going to pay for a wedding in a year or so, and make a marriage work?

  6. Yes, absolutely. My sister was engaged without a ring.  My BIL bought her a ring 4 years after they were married.  Very nice and better than what he could have done earlier.

  7. of course you can.  You can even get married without wedding rings.

  8. Yeah of course it is. He could get you a cheapo ring from a local shop with the promise of a bigger better one when he has the money. You dont have to have a ring to be engaged, but it is always nice to have something on your finger :)

  9. yes you can get engage without the ring. He can save up to buy the ring he wants you to have.

  10. Yeah of course. The ring is just a symbol of the commitment. If the promise is there... that's all that matters. The ring can come later. That's not even the important part.... it's the planning the wedding/spending the rest of your life with the person you love which is the important stuff. Congrats.

  11. Absolutely!! My fiancé and I have been engaged for almost a year with no ring. He wants a specific kind of ring will not settle for something else. The ring is solely an outward ceremonial accessory but not a requirement. Nothing says you have to have a diamond ring or a ring at all. The ring I will have is not a diamond ring it is an emerald, my sisters was a sapphire and my mother’s was an opal. What you receive should be something that is a gift from the heart that you desire and not something that is felt to be a formality. Your engagement gift could be something from a heartfelt card to a 10 carat diamond, it all depends on you.
