Can you still get piano lesson when you have a keyboard?

It's just a keyboard, no pedal, and probably not enough keys. But, I really want lessons! I've been teaching myself for a while but i don't want to do this forever.

  1. ya u dont use the pedal much and the lower and higher keys you dont use at all unless ur really good but they dont even use them

  2. Yep. However as you get better you will need to get either a proper piano, or a digital/personal/portable piano with 88 weighted keys.

I would recommend the P85, P70 or even better the P140 from Yamaha.

I have the P140 as well as loads of others.

    Have fun!

  3. Even if you've been teaching yourself i expect you'll be taught the basics in order to make sure you've got the right technique. I started of with a keyboard but i did get taught on a piano. Still, I don't think it would make a huge difference for who ever is gonna be teaching you...Good luck and enjoy! Oh, and well done on teaching yourself- that kind of motivation is really admirable.

  4. of course...if you live by a college im sure they will let you have lessons in their practice room if not then i think the keyboard will work.

  5. You probably can, since you can still practice songs on a keyboard.  Still, though, getting a piano might be a better idea because of the difference in sound quality (keyboards never do sound as good).  You don't need a huge grand piano or anything, an upright piano (the smallest version and the one that I have :D) is good enough for practice.  Also, the lack of a pedal might become a problem as you become more advanced, but since it seems like you're just starting off, it should be fine for now.  Hope you manage to find a good teacher!
