Can you still have fun at a college party if you don't drink?

Question

I'm a college student and I don't drink at all. Not for religious reasons or anything, just a personal choice. I often get invited to parties but so far have always declined because I'm not really interested in watching my friends get drunk. In my experience, drunk people are fun to be around if you're drunk, but NOT when you're sober. So, if I go to a party and stay sober, will I still have fun?

I didn't drink much, either.  I had a lot of fun.  I might have one beer (that I would carry around all night), then stop.  I'm not much of a drinker.  I'm a social being, though.  I like to stand around talking to new people.  I would leave before everyone got totally plastered, though.  Another trick, is to pop in and out.  My roommates would beg me to go out, so, if the party was close to my house, I would walk over, stay for ten minutes, then go home and read for an hour, then go back for ten minutes, then go home and read for an hour...  My roommates felt like they did their duty, I pretended that I was being a social butterfly, and everybody was happy....  then, when the party wound down, I'd charge $5 per person to drive them all home!  I made a pretty penny!

Well you could still have fun but the people getting drunk around you are obviously going to have a better time than you. If you want to be cool in college then you're gonna have to drink. It's a part of the college experience.

well yeah you will just don't let it get to you. maybe you can convince some of your friends not to drink.

I never used to drink then either ... I thought it was funny to see them make fools out of themselves, and they always had a "designated driver"

Honestly, I don't think you will have any fun unless you can derive amusement from watching the progression from sober to drunk in your friends.  

It might be fun to take some pictures and show them to your embarrassed friends later!

This all depends.  Everyone is very different in their idea of fun.  It is definitely possible to have a good time at a party where everyone is drinking even if you do not.  I would recommend sticking to smaller parties with a group of trusted friends, the kind of party where there is actually stuff going on other than just drinking games--the fun ends when people are so drunk they are puking or passing out, but if there's enough going on to keep everybody entertained, hanging around drunk people isn't terrible.  

Like you, I am also a college student who doesn't drink, and I avoided all parties for a year before I started going to some of my friends' smaller parties.  They can still be fun, so don't miss out.

Also, it can actually be pretty fun to watch drunk people's antics when you're sober and can actually see how absurd they look! :P

Depends on who with.  Some drunk people are a lot of fun when they're drunk, others are annoying.  My personal advice to you is go to all the parties you can, and then when you find people who are tolerable when they're drunk (and/or don't drink just to get drunk), and become friends with them.

I also recommend getting over your hang-ups about alcohol.  I used to be like you, then finally I tried getting trashed a few times, and I have to say now I love alcohol--even if I don't get drunk.
