Can you still play an acoustic-electric guitar like a regular acoustic guitar?

I want to find a good acoustic guitar, but all the ones I looked at aren't very appealing. do acoustic-electric play like acoustic?

Yes.  The tone might be less fat, because most acoustic-electric's are slightly smaller than straight up acoustics.  Why can't you find an appealing regular acoustic?  I find one every time I step into a music shop.  Anyways, an acoustic-electric plays like a regular but can be amplified as well.
