This is probably a very stupid question but I'm confused. I know you're not supposed to block a crosswalk but if you stop before the limit line and then pull up and stop to see if cars are coming is that okay? I'm going to take my driver's test soon and in my neighborhood there are a lot of trees that block your view if you only stop at the crosswalk. It's almost impossible to see unless you pull up.

And if it matters, I live in California.

  1. No

  2. No......not in any state............

  3. Refer to the driver book for the correct answer.  Your first point of stop is correct at the limit line, once you have come to a full stop you may proceed to a clear vantage point if safe vision is blocked by obstruction.  Blocking the cross walk is when you obstruct the crosswalk completely- meaning you ignore the limit line and stop in the cross walk like most people who drive in Florida do...

Please keep in mind traffic laws vary state to state but in Florida a rolling stop at a stop sign is a California stop and is a 3 point infraction for failing to observe a traffic control device.

  4. no by law you are supposed to stop before the crosswalk before turning, if you stop and there are no pedestrians in walk it is ok to pull forward to see. I stopped in the middle of crosswalk when I took my test and got points taken off thats how I found out.
