  1. I don't think the GI Bill will pay for private pilot lessons... the GI Bill normally requires you attend an accredited college or university and maintain a certain grade and course obligations.

    However, you are certainly free to take pilot's lessons in your free time if you want to.  I took a few lessons while I was in the Navy.  They weren't all that pricey to tell you the truth.  Now, this was back in the early 90's, and fuel was much cheaper.  It seems like the logbook (which is an absolute requirement) cost more than my first lesson.  I suppose there might be some actual schools for getting a pilot's lisence, but it's pretty easy to do in your spare time.  Get in a couple hours a month trhough a private trainer from a municipal airport.  This way there's no big investment of time or money upfront.
