I recieved some rhubarb starts and I'm not sure if I want to plant them in the ground, as my yard is currently "a work in progress". Does rhubarb do well in containers? And if so, how big of a container should I put it in?

  1. The leaves are really big on rhubarb so it would need a large space all around it to grow.  On a deck or patio wold work out just fine.  I am not sure if they grow good in containers.  We used to pick it wild in Colorado in the summer.  I would say that the container should be a big one.  Good Luck!

  2. Rhubarb is a very large plant that requires a lot of space.  I hope you know the leaves are toxic and shouldn't be eaten, but the bright red stalks are delicious, especially in rhubarb pie.  There's lots of good rhubarb recipes online.

You might want to try a container called the Roottub.  It was designed especially to grow root vegetables such as Scorzonera and Salsify, as well as beets, rutabagas, globe turnips, carrots, etc.   It should be large enough to grow rhubarb.  Good luck.
