Question:

Can you suggest a good Physics curriculum?

I am a homeschooler, and I am taking a Physics course. However, my current Physics curriculum is not adequate and leaves things hanging and jumps subjects. I was wondering if anybody knew of any curriculums worth while. And if you all knew how much the suggested curriculum cost.

Thanks.

  1. My family has used Saxon from the begining, and since I want to be an engineer, I probably will too.  It is very math-heavy.

  2. Apologia is a great one.

  3. We used the Apologia Curriculum and really got a lot out of it.

  4. Apologia is great!  This is what my son will be using.  It comes with CDRom and MP3 supplements to help you along, and the text is very straight-forward.

Here is a web-based physics curriculum - it may have graphics or animations that may help you as well.  I haven't gone through it, but I like what I see in the Algebra program:

    Hope that helps!

  5. We worked with two simultaneous curriculums when we did physics. One was Saxon Physics and the other was Apologia. They were very different from one another in style and focus. Saxon focused on the math. This one might benefit a student aiming to go into a math-heavy degree program later such as engineering. Apologia takes the more traditional science text path of labs and lots of concept discussion mixed in with a fair amount of math. This will be well suited to the less math inclined and those seeking degrees in less math-heavy majors.

I am sure there are a large number of other curriculums out there as well. Personally, when we do physics again with the next round of kids coming up through our homeschool program, I want to find a physics program with interactives to help explain the concepts and how the math works (how the variables are changing when you change something else)' I have worked with enough online simulations now to see that this method is an ideal supplement or primary instructional method for this subject. I haven't yet found a curriculum like this, but if you seek out interactives on each topic as you go through your text, you are likely to find individual online interactives to enjoy. A good site to find links and reviews of physics interactives and simulations is http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/sci_edu/phy...

    Good luck. :)

  6. Learn your trig first

    mechanics (not cars !)

    electrical

  7. Here are two free online ones you could try. The first one was developed for the University of California Virtual High School:
