  1. Ok having surfed in Oregon most of my life let me tell you you can. Seaside has great waves though unless you know people there the locals can be very lets say a challange (they once destroyed a surfing magizine reporter/photographers car for shooting a spot for the magizine). Newport has a few decent spots Otter Rock has a lot of people going there but the waves are not that good. There is also The boy scout camp, Boiler Bay and a few other good spots in between.

  2. Portland is actually quite a distance from any Ocean front (about a 2-3 hour drive). There are some great waves at the beach, but it is very cold.

If you love to surf, you will probably love other water sports - which there are a lot of around Portland. Lots of people love to water ski and Hood River is fantastic for wind surfing. People do wind surf outside Portland too - on both the Columbia and the Willamette Rivers.

  3. i wouldnt... too cold and no waves haha

  4. Lots of good surf between Seaside and Cannon Beach, all places you can drive to and return the same day.  Also, if you get in with the local Portland surf crowd, it will be easy to find rides.  You might try following the posts on www.oregonsurfreport.com

I found most folks friendly in Oregon but there is some localism.
