Can you surf in Darwin?

Just wondering, I'm thinking about moving there for uni around Feb 2009.

  1. Well there's a surf live saving club up there but thats about it. No real surf at all.

Well Darwin is on a bay, so not so good with the waves at all.  Some people do at Mindal beach, but there are no good waves as such.  Also you have to remember that for half the year there are Box Jelly fish, whose stings are deadly and really painful.  So if you don't get stung by one of them you could always get eatten by a salt water crocodile. They are worse than sharks, you don't see them at all they take you under and you never come back up.

    So you can surf in Darwin but I wouldn't unless you have a death wish.

  4. No one even swims in the sea at Darwin.  Marine stingers and crocodiles are a bit of a discouragement.
