If someone is on a motorbike when it crashes and causes an explosion, can they survive? Or even just if someone is standing by an explosion? If they can- what effects would you expect e.g. burns

  1. When I was a child, a neighboring boy put a burning stick into an "empty" gas tank.  It was full of fumes.  Darren and his sister both lived.  They required extensive plastic surgery.  He was in the second or third grade.  I saw him in 1998, 25 years after the accident.  He had different colored patches of skin over his face, arms and hands.  He was a patchwork of skin-grafts.

He was still living and was working.  He was unmarried.  His quality of life was lower than wanted, but he lived.  He had received third degree burns over forty percent of his body and the rest was pretty much covered with first and second.  The medical bills were in excess of $100,000 in late 1960's/ early 1970's.

  2. Of course you can, if you are far enough away.

What the critical distance is depends on the intensity of the explosion.

    .

  3. Get up  and runaway if possible.
